Ever heard the phrase “death by PowerPoint”? For many employees, the dread of PowerPoint is second only to the dread of meetings.
Sometimes management needs to create presentations to convey information to team-members. And sometimes slide decks are the best way to do so. But is there anything more interesting, visually compelling, and attention-grabbing than PowerPoint?
1) Think Outside of the Box
Does your presentation absolutely have to be a PowerPoint? And who is the audience? If you’re presenting something to a regional manager, a new prospective client, or at a keynote speech, consider paying a freelancer to create a video presentation.
A video presentation can be quick, simple, and visually attractive. The primary downside is that you won’t be able to pause on key-frames or rewind to clarify your points. So, it may be worthwhile to create an accompanying document or handout as well.
Stuck on how to find a freelancer? The freelancers at Fiverr or Upwork will be more than happy to help.
2) Visme
If you have some extra time on your hands and feel up to mastering a new tool, Visme might be worth a look. Visme offers a wide range of pre-made templates to create stunning, impactful presentations.
What’s more, with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, you can also create infographics, charts, and graphs. Since PowerPoint and Excel’s chart-creation tools aren’t very robust — and may even be boring — you may be interested in Visme if you have a data-driven presentation.
The price is reasonable, especially if you find yourself making presentations every other week. At only $12 a month, Visme packs plenty of interesting features. You can share presentations online, track analytics such as how long your audience remained on a slide, and quickly switch between hundreds of templates.
3) Canva
Is Canva a presentation software? Not exactly. But Canva does offer a wide variety of eye-catching, exciting templates to save you from using Word or PowerPoint for unintended purposes. If you’ve been designing fliers, book covers, or website images with PowerPoint, try Canva.
Canva offers a robust free option that has plenty of templates, shapes and fonts to play around with. What’s more, they offer pre-made social media posts, ranging from LinkedIn to Instagram.
Canva also offers presentation templates. You can design an eye-catching presentation in Canva, then import it into Google Slides or PowerPoint. This, at the minimum can save your employees from PowerPoint template fatigue.
