To say that the Amish have a different way of doing things, is putting it lightly. You may know a thing or two about the Amish community in the Midwest, but a little over a year ago the nation got a rare look into their community via viral video. In the footage, upwards of fifty men from the Hillsboro, WI Amish community came together to move an entire pole barn – by hand.
Singing along to a hymn, known entirely by heart, the men simply pick up the building and move it some distance to its new location. To an outsider, the situation looks like a tragic accident waiting to happen but as the barn makes its way, the men glide along the grass with ease. Almost like they’ve done it before!
Let’s be honest. Most of us living in the modern world would truly struggle to adapt to the Amish way of life and it is most definitely not for everyone. However, we can still take a few pages from their book. Like when moving the pole barn, the Amish have a deep sense of commitment to those around them and when help is needed, they are there for each other.
Even if we aren’t living as closely as the Amish, supporting your community remains just as important.
